A Note on Disambiguation
Hello. Let me start by saying that if you’ve found your way to our blog, An American Family in London, you were probably searching for An American Werewolf in London, the gripping tale of two backpackers set upon by a terrifying lycanthrope while hiking in the Moors, and the misery that subsequently befalls them. Nothing to come on any of these pages will be more exciting than the film synopsis you’ve just read.
For our octogenarian visitors, you were likely attempting to locate An American in Paris. Paris is the 1950’s multi-Academy-Award-winning musical based on George Gershwin’s orchestral work, chronicling the post-World War II adventures of protagonist Jerry Mulligan, beautifully acted and choreographed by Gene Kelly. It’s about even odds that film isn’t more interesting than this blog.
For any young Gen-Xers or old millennials here, maybe you were feeling a bit nostalgic, longing to revisit the 1986 classic from your childhood, An American Tail. A truly heartwarming animated story of how one Russian family, of mice, overcame persecution and found freedom in America. It’s frankly a must-see, and features the vocal talent of screen legends such as Dom DeLuise.
Type “An American” into Google and its algorithm will tell you that any of those options are more likely answers to your query than this site. And yet you’ve landed here. What you’ve found, while similar in certain themes, is fundamentally unrelated to any of those works of fiction. To quote Dickens, “This must be distinctly understood, or nothing wonderful can come of the stories I am going to relate.”
This site is about a relatively nondescript family from Boise, Idaho and our travels living as expats in London and beyond. If that sounds of interest to you, head over to Meet Our Family, and then check out the Blog to follow our misadventures. We’re happy you’re here.
